Tribute To Our Late MD

In loving memory of our

Late Managing Director Ang Tshiring Sherpa

(Oct 2, 1964 – Feb 27, 2019)

“It broke our hearts to lose you,

But you did not go alone.

A part of us went with you,

The day God called you home.”

Born in the remote village of Pangom, Solukhumbu in the shadow of Everest - Ang Tshiring Sherpa the third son (fourth child) of Pasang Nuru Sherpa and Pemba Diki Sherpa, was always cheerful, passionate and motivated. His love for the Himalayas and desire to promote Nepal inspired him to established Thamserku Trekking, an adventure travel company with his brothers Sonam Sherpa and Ang Tendi Sherpa. That was the beginning of a pioneering journey that would establish him as a leading tourism entrepreneur.

To overcome the challenges of reliable and regular air services to remote mountain regions, the Sherpa brothers established - at great risk - their own airline. In September 1998 Yeti Airlines took flight with one Canadian built DHC6-300 Twin-Otter aircraft. Today the airline has spread its wings to operate 16 aircraft – making it the largest domestic airline with the widest network in Nepal.

A visionary leader, Ang Tshiring Sherpa is fondly remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit, generosity and philanthropy. Beyond the aviation sector, his contribution to Nepal’s entire tourism industry was immense and he established numerous successful hotels, resorts, travel and trekking agencies that have opened new areas and brought economic opportunities to local populations. A people person and an avid golfer who loved, supported and promoted sports, he was always concerned about the environmental impact and giving back to local communities and the country.

Renowned as a pioneer and trailblazer he touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with through his simplicity, vision and passion to make a difference. From political leaders to business associates and competitors to staff, he had a way of making people smile.

Ang Tshiring Sherpa may not be with us today, but his legacy lives on. Through his life and work he has inspired all of us to keep walking in his footsteps.
